How To Make A Tapa Cloth

Equipment:

Brown Paper

Pencil

Rubber

Ruler

Vivid

Brown Dye

Bleach

Cotton buds

Find a Tapa Pattern That you want to draw.

Find a Brown Piece of paper that is 30cm x 30cm.

Rule up a 10 by 10 grid (rule boxes 3cm apart on a 30 cm Square piece of brown paper).

Draw the Tapa pattern that you found on the brown piece of paper with pencil. {Step 1}
Rub out all the lines that you made for the grid.
Go over all the patterns with your vivid.
Colour some of the patterns in with black vivid.
Scrunch it up as much as you can to make it soft, approximately 10 times.
Dye the entire paper brown.
Wait for it to dry. {Takes about 3-5 hours to dry}
Use cotton buds to put bleach on the parts that you want white.
Hang the Tapa cloth on the wall to display it.

Reflecting on my Tapa Cloth
1. Are you pleased with your Tapa Cloth? why / why not?
Yes Because the White stands out on the Brown.

2. What did you find easy when you were creating your Tapa?
I found drawing the grid easy.

3. What did you find tricky when you were creating your Tapa?
I found drawing the Leaves tricky.

4. If you made another Tapa, what would you change and why?
I won’t put too much Bleach on one spot because it will go too white.

5. Who / What has helped you in creating your Tapa?
Jacob has helped me with drawing my leafs.

6. Did you use any of your own cultural patterns in your own Tapa? Which ones? What do they mean? If you didn’t use your cultural patterns, what patterns did you use? Where did they come from?
I didn’t use any cultural patterns. I did leaves and they came from Tonga.

7. What geometric elements does your Tapa Cloth show? Reflection, Rotation, Translation.

Hi.

This is my Tapa Cloth. This is my master piece work. The steps form this were:

Find a Tapa that you want to draw.
Rule up a 10 by 10 grid (rule boxes 3cm apart on a 30 cm Square piece of brown paper).
Draw the Tapa that you chose.
When you finished drawing your Tapa, Dye the whole thing.
Let it dry {Approximately 2-3 hours to dry}
Then Bleach the parts that you want. {Warning: Bleach is toxic so BE CAREFUL!!}

My favorite part was drawing the Tapa.{Step 3.}

Vitruvian Man

Hi.
This is me and my Vitruvian Man work.
I learnt that my foot is an equivalent from my wrist to my elbow.
On the Internet it said that 6 of your feet could equal to your height but, it didn't.
I was a bit taller than my 6 feet.

Eastern Beach Trip

...Eastern Beach...
Yahoo. I was excited. I was hotter than the sun. Do you know why? The whole of Panmure Bridge School went to a beach called Eastern Beach.

I was furious when I heard the bus was late. A bus came past and everyone shouted “YAY ,YAY” but it was the wrong bus. When the next bus came, it stopped and it was the right bus.

There was four buses and I went in the first bus. It was very noisy and loud in the bus. It was as loud as a trumpet.

The first bus was first to arrive at Eastern Beach. Then when the other buses came, Mr.Johnston (Our Principal) talked to us about safety.

I was starving. When it was Morning Tea, I quickly rushed to my bag and I took my chips out. Then we were allowed to play. I went to play touch with my friends.

Just before lunch it was Room 5’s turn to to swim. I didn’t swim because I always get sun burnt so I just sat there and watched until Tevita told me to come and play passes with me.

We played passes for awhile. Then the other people that was swimming came out and quickly changed. We played touch again and then it was time to go home.

I had a brilliant time at Eastern Beach.

My Inter-school Athletics story

.Inter school Athletics.

Yippee. I didn’t know what to do. I was sweating on my hands. I felt like shouting ‘yes’. Do you know why? I finally found out if I was in Inter-school Athletics.

It was a Friday Morning and we had Inter-school Athletics. I was panicking because I came late and I thought they went to athletics without me.

When I arrived to school I ran to the office as fast as I could to check in. Then I ran to class and saw Jarred and Cody.N that was in athletics in class instead of on the court to get ready. My life was saved.

My friends and I ran to the court to get our name tag. On the name tag it said our name, school, the events we were in and our age. I was in shot put and softball throw.

Then when everyone had there name tag we walked to our bus. On the bus it was pretty boring because I had to sit next to a girl. After we got out of the bus, I met up with Jarred and Tyler.

We arrived to the place we supposed to sit. Then we had to walk another 200 metres to sit on our next place.I had to go to shot put on round 2 and softball throw on round 5. I did bad in both.

Besides all of that, I had a great time.

My Athletics Story.

Dah Dah Dah! Today is the day. A really big day. It’s the day for school Athletics!! I was overwhelmed. I was thinking to myself ‘ would I come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in anything.’

While I was coming to school, I did some little stretches in the car to warm up. Finally we arrived at school. I was nervous when I got to school, because I knew that I was going to verse a lot of people.

There was high jump with Miss. Sayers and Miss. Paton, Discus with Mrs. Salmon, Mrs.Gina and Shaun, Sprints with Miss. Huggins and Mrs. Leeming, Shotput with Whaea. Raewyn and Mrs. Prasad and Jump Jam with Mrs. Heeps.

The 9 year olds did high jump first. I didn’t do well in that. Then we had discus. After discus, we did sprints. I came 3rd in the 75m sprints and 3rd in the 100m sprints. Finally we had shotput. I was lucky and I came second. After that we had Jump Jam to finish off.

I had a wonderful time doing athletics.

The Museum Trip

The Museum Trip

‘Yippee!!’ I said when I heard that we were going to the museum. I was so excited when we were on the bus. The bus was full and noisy.

When we arrived to the Museum I was shocked how big the Museum was. We got into our groups. The people in my group were Cody N, Jarred, Kobe, Jacob and the parent helper was Cody.N and Jarred’s dad Craig. I felt Jealous because I knew that there was going to be a lot of great stuff in the museum. When we got inside the museum I felt like jumping up and down.

The first room my group went in was full of pots. My favourite room was the Maori weapons room. I imagined we played a shooting game with the the guns.

Then we had lunch for about 30 minutes. After lunch we had free time in the museum. We just went inside for about 45 minutes and then we got out of the museum. Only our group got out. We had a little chat and then we met up with the the class and we went home.

I had a wonderful time at the museum.

My Cube Making Recount

Cube Making

On Monday Mrs.Walters came in room 5. I had a fun time. Do you know why? We were making a 3-d cube. We all had to find a partner . My partner was Silas. Room 5 had to be careful of who our partner was. Then we had to think of how many wine gums and toothpicks or skewers we needed.

We used 12 toothpicks and 8 wine gums. I wasn’t allowed to eat the wine gums because they had gelatine in it.

Silas and I got toothpicks instead of skewers because we knew that if we chose skewers it wouldn’t stand up well. Silas ate a wine gum secretly when he wasn’t supposed to.

At the end we could eat the wine gums. Silas got to eat all of our wine gums. Before we got to eat the wine gums we had to measure the whole thing. My measurement was 78cm.

I had a great time making a 3D cube.

I had a lot of fun measuring and listening to people who got more or less than me. Rachel got the highest with a great 1o8 centimetres. Merika came second with an outstanding 93cm. I got 71cm. Henry got the lowest. His wrapper was 19 centimetres.

Jonah Tali Lomu

Jonah Lomu’s full name is Jonah Tali Lomu. He was born on the 12th May 1975 in Auckland New Zealand. His height is 1.96 M and his weight is 125 Kg. His nicknames are Big Man Burger. His Position is wing. He had 63 caps as an All Black after debuting in 1994. He is generally regarded as a first true global superstar of rugby union.

He was inducted into the international rugby hall of fame on 9 October 2007. At the age of 19 years Jonah started playing rugby for The All Blacks. His first game was against France. He was chosen for the 1995 world cup in South Africa.

Lomu burst onto the international rugby scene during the 1994 Hong Kong sevens tournament and was widely aknowledged to be the top player at he 1995 world cup in South Africa even though N.Z lost the championships game to the host Springboks.

This is the class quiz for the week. This is like playing Sodoku. This is my combination. I had to match different coloured cups with different coloured saucers. I could not have a cup and saucer that were the same colour. We were not allowed to have two cups or saucers of the same colour in the columns or row.
